Chad is the current bandmaster for the NVYB. Chad Smith is an established saxophonist and band director based in North Vancouver, BC. After receiving his B. Mus in Jazz Studies from Capilano University in 2004 he went on to complete his B. Ed from the University of British Columbia in 2005. 

The North Vancouver Youth Band provides musical instruction to youth ages 8 to 21 years in a variety of musical genres from beginners to advanced levels of musicianship. Established in 1939, as the North Vancouver Schools Band, the NVYB has endured and excelled as a symphonic wind ensemble in both concert and parade.

One of the few local community or school bands to march in a traditional, British Military style, the band represents the City and District of North Vancouver in local, provincial, Canadian and international venues.

The NVYB has performed in many movie, television productions and commercials. As a non-profit, charitable, parent-run society, the NVYB relies on membership fees, fund-raising and the generous support of public and private sponsors. The NVYB employs professional educators and musicians to conduct the ensembles. With the emphasis on training the basics of musicianship and performance, our bandmasters excel in their ability to encourage, teach and develop strong ensemble play at all levels of the band. Programs are offered year round, with core instruction provided between September and June. A very popular and well attended summer program is run during the months of July and August, providing a low cost introduction to the band and instrumental play.
