Volunteer Value Statement Participating as a volunteer of the North Vancouver Youth Band affords a number of benefits. The NVYB does need parent volunteers to continue to function. [click here for more info...] Posted: Jan 10, 2010, 10:47 Performance Band As the official band of the City and District of North Vancouver the band performs at civic ceremonies and parades. It tours within the Province as well as nationally and internationally. As the band is re-building at the senior level, the Performance Band in 2008/2009 may involve students at the senior and intermediate levels and may also include the junior band for spring parades. Bell Choir, Ensembles Smaller brass and woodwind ensembles and a bell choir are formed for performances at special Christmas or other events. Posted: Sep 17, 2008, 22:44 Senior Band Members are capable of playing challenging music and are able to play major, minor, and chromatic scales from two to three octaves up and down and can execute different styles of phrasing and articulation. They are familiar with complex time and key signatures and are able to play syncopation.Most participants in this band are in high school or beyond, or have played at least four to five years.The band plays traditional band music as well as popular favourites and participates in parades and concerts.Posted: Sep 17, 2008, 22:43 Intermediate Band Members have studied their instrument for two to three years or are proficient on a primary instrument and wish to pursue a secondary instrument. Most students in this band are able to play several scales one to two octaves up and down, have knowledge of compound time signatures and key signatures with at least two flats or sharps. They are familiar with repeat signs, and dynamic and tempo markings. Most members of this group are in grade seven or higher although some younger students who made exceptional progress have been promoted to this level. This band plays a wide variety of traditional band music and participates in parades and concerts. Posted: Sep 17, 2008, 22:42 Junior Band Members have had at least one year of instruction on their instrument, and are familiar with basic rhythm patterns, basic time signatures and basic key signatures and can play at least a one-octave scale up and down. They are soon ready to play band repertoire at the grade 1 to 1.5 level. Most students in this band are in grade five or six, although the band sometimes includes older students with some band experience and those learning a second instrument.
