Junior Band Members have had at least one year of instruction on their instrument, and are familiar with basic rhythm patterns, basic time signatures and basic key signatures and can play at least a one-octave scale up and down. They are soon ready to play band repertoire at the grade 1 to 1.5 level. Most students in this band are in grade five or six, although the band sometimes includes older students with some band experience and those learning a second instrument.
