Senior Band
Members of the Senior Band are capable of playing challenging music and are able to play major, minor, and chromatic scales from two to three octaves up and down and can execute different styles of phrasing and articulation. They are familiar with complex time and key signatures and are able to play syncopation.
Most participants in this band are in high school or beyond, or have played at least four to five years. The band plays traditional band literature as well as popular favorites. As the official band of the City and District of North Vancouver the band performs at civic ceremonies and parades. It regularly tours within the Province as well as nationally and internationally.

Intermediate Band
Members of the Intermediate Band have studied their instrument for two to three years or are proficient on a primary instrument and wish to pursue a secondary instrument. Most students in this band are able to play several scales one to two octaves up and down, have knowledge of compound time signatures and key signatures with at least two flats or sharps. They are familiar with repeat signs, and dynamic and tempo markings. Most members of this group are in grade seven or higher although some younger students who made exceptional progress have been promoted to this level. This band plays a wide variety of traditional band music and participates in parades and concerts.

Junior Band
Members of the Junior Band have had at least one year of instruction on their instrument and are familiar with basic rhythm patterns, basic time signatures and basic key signatures and can play at least a one octave scale up and down. As they continue to develop ensemble skills, they are soon ready to play band repertoire at the grade 1 to 1.5 level. Although most students in this band are in grade five or six, the band sometimes includes older students with some band experience and those learning a second band instrument. Junior Band members are introduced to the skills of marching during the spring season.
